Here’s How to Build Topical Authority for a Med Spa Website
You’ve made it to this page which immediately signals one thing: you know what med spa SEO is and why it’s a core part of many brands’ success. So I’ll skip the background and hop right into giving advice for how to build topical authority for a med spa website.
What is topical authority for SEO?
Many med spa websites almost have the right idea but their content strategy goes sideways when they fail to hone in on their authority. Sure, you can quickly come up with 10 high-intent topics for your SEO strategy, but if there’s not a general thread weaving them together, your content is too scattered. Google doesn’t like scattered content.
That’s why topical authority is key. When you’ve signaled to the algorithm that your website is filled with factual, research-backed information, your med spa content will quickly rise in the ranks.
SEO has greatly evolved over time. Now, content strategies need to keep generative AI searches in mind, too. AI search results reward consistent, in-depth content that shows real expertise. Real-world perspectives (the kind that can’t be replicated by an
AI writer) are favored by Google, too.
How do I build topical authority for my med spa blog?
The best way to build authority is to post consistent, valuable content. Don’t focus entirely on volume, though. You’ll have better results by focusing on value and depth.
What does this look like in the context of med spa marketing?
Let’s say your med spa clinic offers botox, fillers, laser treatments, chemical peels, and microneedling. You might be thinking that’s too many topics to build authority over. But you’re not trying to become the top search result for every single one of those services. You’re trying to own the cosmetic treatment space.
All of those services fall under the same umbrella of nonsurgical aesthetic treatments. Writing blogs related to each of those topics will help you own the space. But more importantly, you should have multiple pages with multiple references to these treatments, with each blog building on the next. These are called clusters.
Here’s a quick example:
Cluster 1: Laser treatment
- Blog 1: What is laser treatment?
- Blog 2: Where to get laser treatment in Austin
- Blog 3: What are the side effects of laser treatment?
- Blog 4: How much does laser treatment cost?
→ All of these blogs build off of one another, with links referring to the other pages in each blog
Cluster 2: Botox
- Blog 1: What is botox?
- Blog 2: Where to get botox in Austin
- Blog 3: What are the side effects of botox?
- Blog 4: How much does botox cost?
→ All of these blogs build off of one another, with links referring to the other pages in each blog
And on and on and on. All of these blogs reference the general topic of aesthetic treatments, building off one another to create a beautiful content strategy that actually converts.
**DISCLAIMER** I use very generic topics to illustrate the general SEO concepts I’m referring to. As my freelance writing clients know, my SEO strategy goes much deeper than these examples.
Why is my med spa content not ranking?
I get this question a lot from people who hire me to write SEO blog content.
I hear a lot of variations of these same questions:
“Why aren’t my blogs ranking yet?”
“Why is my blog not the top search result?”
“When will my blog make it to the front page of Google?”
“Shouldn’t my blogs be ranking by now?”
For the most part, the answer is time. SEO is not a quick fix. It’s a deeply useful, longform strategy that continues to build on itself.
If you’re wondering why your med spa blogs aren’t ranking yet, here are some questions to consider:
- Has it been several months since the blog has been posted?
- If not, don’t expect to see much change. It takes a while for optimized content to really take off. However, it’s worth assessing if your pages aren’t getting any views after several months. If that’s the case, you may be targeting too broad of searches or making other SEO mistakes.
- Is your med spa blog human or AI generated?
- If it’s AI-generated, did you edit it well enough to not read like a generic, soulless post? Google prefers first-hand accounts and deep research to build authority.
- Did you check the URL on Google Search Console?
- Google Search Console is a valuable SEO tool and if you’re not using it, you’re missing out. Check the URL to ensure it’s been indexed correctly. (Tip: check URLs of blogs you just posted, too, to speed up the indexing time and thus, rank faster)
- Most importantly, have you demonstrated topical authority?
- The internet is filled to the brim with generic content on just about every topic. Med spas and wellness brands tend to struggle to stand out in the crowd without a solid SEO strategy.
