And how to hire a wellness writer that knows what they're doing

If you’ve been following my work for any given time, you’ll know that I’ve mostly been a freelance cannabis writer for the last eight years or so. I write converting SEO content for cannabis brands and also operate on the journalism side, mostly writing business profiles and features and industry updates. That’s not going away. But I am shifting into the wellness space because I’ve realized there is space for me to offer my content marketing strategies and skills to more brands that I believe in. With that said, I’m going to walk you through what a freelance wellness writer can do for your brand.

Freelance wellness writers tackle common questions for your blog

One of the greatest ways to utilize a freelance wellness writer is to boost your blog strategy. Take a look at some of the biggest competitors in your space and see how many of them are actively posting on blogs. (Hint: some of the best wellness brands are using blogs to connect with their target audience with great success.)

Although SEO best practices have changed over the years and the algorithm continues to evolve, wellness brands can use their blogs to reach a much larger audience than other marketing methods. That’s because well-written, strategic SEO blogs are meant to answer common questions your target audience searches for.

When your blog comes up as a top result for a user’s question, they’re likely to
automatically associate your brand with credibility, authority, and trustworthiness. That means they’re more likely to purchase from you.

Freelance wellness writers can bring real traffic and conversions

Here’s a quick example of a successful blog-to-purchase pipeline based on the information outlined above:

A middle-aged woman is dealing with hormonal changes and looking for real advice and answers online. She searches “how to manage perimenopause symptoms” and finds your blog on the exact topic. After reading your blog, which contains research-backed information and resources, she sees the call to action at the bottom recommending that she try your supplements for her exact condition.

Then she sees a list of recommended reading that points to other blog posts. “Can perimenopause cause skin dryness?” reads one headline. She already knows her skin has been getting dry lately, but never made the exact connection. So she reads through that blog and sees another call-to-action at the bottom of the post.

By now, she’s read through two blogs and learned valuable information to better manage her symptoms. Because your site isn’t just selling supplements and actually provides meaningful insight into their uses, she feels confident making a purchase.

And
all of that began with a simple Google search.

Freelance wellness writers can create a content ecosystem for better marketing

I’ve talked about content ecosystems in the past and I don’t plan to stop anytime soon. They are a crucial and often overlooked part of SEO blog content strategies.

When a freelance wellness writer crafts a well-written, valuable blog, your brand is faced with a golden opportunity. Sure, you can (and should) post it online and wait for the traffic to roll in as outlined above (and trust me, with a well-optimized blog, the traffic
will roll in.)

But your strategy shouldn’t stop there. Wellness blogs are great tools to include in other marketing materials. For example, you can convert key points from a blog written by a freelance SEO wellness writer into a beautiful infographic for Instagram. This will add another layer of credibility to your brand and encourage social media users to check out your website.

You can also include the blog in your next newsletter to provide another layer of value to your readers. Rather than just trying to push your supplements and other products in a newsletter, you can include a link to your wellness blog that provides wisdom, insights, and actionable advice for your readers without making them feel like they’re being explicitly sold to.
